Lower Old Town, Art and the Aare

Why go

This route is for walkers who want to connect the lower Old Town with Bern's cultural quarter and the river landscape. Begin on Gerechtigkeitsgasse, pausing at its fountain before reaching Nydeggkirche. Return west to Münsterplatz and the Münster before crossing to Kunsthalle Bern. These stops combine streets, architecture and contemporary art without requiring a long museum marathon. The Dählhölzli animal park is an optional continuation south along the Aare, best chosen if you still want time outdoors. The route has more walking than the central Old Town circuit, so give the transitions their own time and treat the final park as a separate choice.
