Gerechtigkeitsbrunnen
The Fountain of Justice is a close-looking stop on Gerechtigkeitsgasse. Its blindfolded figure, sword and scales turn an Old City walk into a study of symbolism.
Look below Lady Justice as well as at her familiar attributes. Four smaller figures represent different forms of earthly power, giving the fountain a sharper message than a decorative street landmark. The present statue is a copy following damage to the original in 1986.
What to look for
Lady Justice holds a sword and scales while wearing a blindfold.
Four smaller rulers stand below the main figure.
An octagonal basin surrounds the central pillar.
Useful to know
Stop at the fountain while walking Gerechtigkeitsgasse.
Look upward from the smaller figures to read the whole composition.
