Why go
The square links major parts of central Bern, but its fountain deserves more than a passing glance. The ogre figure and the little procession of bears beneath it show how much character Bern’s public fountains bring to the streetscape. This is a short outdoor stop rather than a destination for a long visit.
What to look for
- The Kindlifresserbrunnen stands in the square.
- The fountain’s ogre and children sit above a frieze of armed bears.
Useful to know
- Combine the square with Zytglogge and a closer look at the Kindlifresserbrunnen.
- Allow a brief outdoor pause; the square itself needs little dedicated time.
