Why go
The house shows how Bern’s Old City was reshaped behind its street fronts. Architect Erasmus Ritter gave the north façade a unified design in the eighteenth century, although older building fabric lay behind it. Look for the five-bay arrangement and the steep mansard roof rather than planning an interior visit.
What to look for
- The principal façade is arranged in five bays.
- Pilasters mark the upper floors beneath a steep mansard roof.
- A carved fountain stands in front of the house.
Useful to know
- View the façade from Herrengasse; public interior access is not established.
- Keep this as a brief architectural pause on an Old City walk.
