Why go
This is the most physical of the five walks and suits visitors who want Bologna’s porticoes as a journey, not just a backdrop. Porta Saragozza marks the city-side start of the long route. Walk from there to the Meloncello Arch, where the sustained uphill section begins. The Portico di San Luca walk covers that climb toward the sanctuary; the complete portico from Porta Saragozza is a different, longer stretch. Give the ascent generous time and pause as needed before reaching Santuario di San Luca and its hilltop views. Wear shoes suited to a long uphill approach and check current sanctuary access before setting out.

Santuario di San Luca
The hilltop sanctuary pairs a city panorama with Bologna's long Portico di San Luca. The covered ascent is memorable but asks for more effort than a central church visit.
