Why go
Curtea Veche gives the busy historic centre a much older foundation. Surviving walls and archaeological traces mark the court associated with Wallachian rulers, including Vlad III, while the neighbouring Annunciation Church preserves a later layer of the same complex. The visit is compact, but it changes Lipscani from an entertainment district into a place with visible medieval roots.
What to look for
- Stone foundations outline parts of the former princely residence.
- The nearby Old Court Church preserves one of Bucharest's oldest surviving religious buildings.
Useful to know
- Check whether the archaeological site is open before planning an interior visit.
- Combine it with Stavropoleos Monastery, Manuc's Inn and the National History Museum.
