Why go
This is a gentle city walk for visitors who enjoy seeing how the Bastide and Cité fit together. Begin at the garden on the former bastion, continue through Place Carnot, then pause in Square Gambetta before heading to the river. Pont Vieux gives the clearest transition: it is a pedestrian crossing with views back to the fortified hill. Saint-Gimer Church makes a natural final stop below the western walls. The route stays outdoors for most of its length, with several short pauses instead of one long admission visit. Check garden gate hours and church access, and allow extra time for the uphill finish.
