Why go
Pont Vieux works as both a useful crossing and a viewpoint. Walking across the Aude lets you see how the lower town, river and fortified hill relate to one another before the climb toward the Cité. Its stone arches and pedestrian setting reward a deliberate pause, even if you are using the bridge simply to connect two parts of a city walk.
What to look for
- Stone arches over the Aude
- Cité skyline from the crossing
- Walking link between the two historic centers
Useful to know
- The bridge is reserved for pedestrians.
- Allow extra time for the uphill walk toward the Cité.
