Why go
This mostly outdoor route suits a first look at Chicago’s public spaces and lakefront scale. Begin near Buckingham Fountain, then move north through Grant Park to Millennium Park, where Crown Fountain and Cloud Gate deserve separate pauses. Continue to DuSable Bridge for the river-and-skyscraper view. Navy Pier is an optional finish because it adds distance and can consume several hours on its own. Wind, heat or rain can change the route quickly, so shorten the pier section before rushing the art and park sequence.
