Why go
This compact Lower Manhattan route suits visitors who want harbor history without committing the day to an island crossing. The Battery opens with a view across the water; Castle Clinton and Whitehall Terminal show two different eras of waterfront access. Continue through the old streets to Fraunces Tavern Museum, then finish among the ships and galleries of the Seaport. Whitehall Terminal is a useful place to understand the Staten Island ferry option, but a round trip is not counted in this walking plan. Keep the museum visits flexible and check their current visiting details before setting out.
