Prytaneion
The Prytaneion was a ceremonial center of upper Ephesus, associated with Hestia’s civic hearth. Its surviving remains make more sense alongside the Odeon and State Agora.
This is the place to look for the ritual side of civic government. The maintained city fire and official ceremonies made the Prytaneion more than another public building; its position beside the assembly hall and square helps show how political and sacred duties overlapped.
What to look for
The site marks the civic hearth associated with Hestia.
Its remains stand in the upper city near the Odeon and State Agora.
Useful to know
Read it together with the Odeon and State Agora rather than as an isolated ruin.
