Why go
The projecting eastern section once belonged to a smaller church, and a painted dedication date of 1211 survives there. Enlargement around 1300 changed the building without erasing it. Inside, early wall paintings, coloured stone details and surviving choir stalls make the relationship between the two phases worth following.
What to look for
- The two main portals carry religious sculpture and carved ornament.
- Contrasting stone colours mark details such as window frames.
- A Gotland-made altarpiece dates from the early sixteenth century.
Useful to know
- Read the shape from east to west outside, then look for the earlier painted dedication if the church is open.
- Check visiting arrangements with Romakloster parish before planning around the interior.
