Palacio de Carlos V
This Renaissance palace stands within the Alhambra grounds. Its circular courtyard inside a square building creates a sharp architectural contrast with the nearby Nasrid spaces.
Why go
The courtyard is the reason to pause here: a ring of columns turns the palace's strict outer shape into an open circular space. Compare its stone scale with the intimate courts of the Nasrid palaces. The building also houses Granada's Fine Arts Museum upstairs, making the two stops an easy pairing when the museum is open.
What to look for
A circular, two-level courtyard sits inside the square palace plan.
The lower and upper colonnades use different classical orders.
The Fine Arts Museum occupies the palace's upper level.
Useful to know
Pair the courtyard with the Fine Arts Museum if its visiting hours suit your route.
The upper level has lift access.
