Acropolis of Athens
Allow a substantial uphill visit for Athens’s temple precinct; the archaeological setting matters as much as any single façade. Expect uneven stone underfoot and limited shade across the exposed summit.
Compare the Parthenon with the Erechtheion and the approaches between them; the plateau rewards looking across the monuments rather than treating one façade as the whole visit. The climb and uneven stone make the route slower than a flat city walk.
What to look for
Look across the Parthenon, Erechtheion and gateway from the plateau.
Useful to know
Use the official Acropolis entrance information before arrival; allow for the uphill approach, exposed rock and security queues.
