Why go
This south shore walk brings together Hakone's sacred, artistic, and Edo-period stories. Begin at Hakone Shrine, then visit Narukawa Art Museum before moving toward the old Tokaido corridor. The cedar avenue gives a short outdoor link to the reconstructed Hakone Checkpoint, where the former road becomes easier to imagine. Onshi Hakone Park is optional if you want a final garden and lake viewpoint; skipping it keeps the day more focused on history. The stops are close enough for a walking day, though the shoreline paths and museum visit deserve time rather than a rushed circuit. Choose a clear day for the outdoor portions.
