Banzai Pipeline
Banzai Pipeline is a shallow-reef surf break on Oʻahu’s North Shore. From shore, skilled surfing and the shape of powerful waves are the reason to visit.
Why go
The breaking wave forms above a sharp reef and is hazardous even for experts. Conditions vary with swell, so a quiet day may show little of its famous form. Watch from a safe beach position, respect event controls and never interpret the break as a visitor swimming spot.
What to look for
A hollow wave breaks over shallow reef.
Expert surfers can be watched from shore.
Useful to know
Keep outside event-control areas.
Treat the break as a viewing stop, never a swim.
