Hiroshima Castle
The castle grounds show Hiroshima’s earlier history through moats, walls and reconstructed Ninomaru turrets. The main keep can be viewed from outside but is closed to visitors.
Why go
The site helps explain Hiroshima before its modern memorial landscape. Mōri Terumoto began the castle in 1589; the original buildings were destroyed in the atomic bombing. Today, the moats and stonework sit beside reconstructed turrets and a later keep whose exterior remains visible.
