George R. Brown Convention Center
The George R. Brown Convention Center is an event venue on downtown’s east side. Its frontage pairs with Discovery Green; a trip inside needs a specific convention or event.
For visitors attending a convention, the setting adds a park and outdoor walk immediately across the street. For other travelers, the building works as a landmark along Avenida de las Americas. Opened in 1987, it bears the name of Houston entrepreneur and civic benefactor George Rufus Brown.
What to look for
Avenida de las Americas runs along the convention center frontage.
Discovery Green lies directly across the street.
Useful to know
Pair the exterior with Discovery Green rather than making a separate trip for the building alone.
Confirm admission with the event organizer; administrative office hours do not describe convention access.
