Central Market Kuala Lumpur
A former wet market now houses Malaysian art, craft and food stalls in an Art Deco landmark, offering a weather-sheltered browse near Chinatown and the Klang River.
Why go
Central Market combines shopping with a readable piece of city history. The market began in 1888, the present Art Deco building was completed in 1937, and later conversion preserved it as a cultural venue. Its themed lanes foreground Malay, Straits Chinese and Indian traditions in one compact interior.
What to look for
The preserved Art Deco market building completed in 1937
Lorong Melayu, Straits Chinese and Lorong India sections in the west wing
Craft stalls and a food court within the former wet-market structure
Useful to know
Browse the themed lanes before deciding what to buy; they make the cultural organization easier to read.
Use Pasar Seni as the transport anchor and continue on foot to Petaling Street or Masjid Jamek.
Check the Annexe program separately if galleries or performances are part of your plan.
