The full story
Cross Lucerne’s covered timber bridge and study its painted roof panels above the Reuss; this is the compact landmark walk at the heart of the city.
This crossing lets you read several layers of Lucerne at once: painted roof panels overhead, the Water Tower alongside and old-town façades across the Reuss. Walk slowly enough to look up and back toward both banks. Its compact setting makes it easy to connect the bridge with other riverfront sights while still giving it attention of its own.
- The diagonal crossing joins the two banks and gives close views of the Water Tower, riverfront façades and the old town.
Allow about 25 minutes on site; travel to the place is additional.
Cross slowly enough to see the roof paintings and Water Tower from both banks.
