El Badi Palace
El Badi Palace is a vast ruined Saadian residence in the southern medina. Its empty courts and surviving walls make scale the main attraction; pair it with nearby Bahia Palace for a strong contrast.
Why go
The palace’s stripped surfaces ask you to reconstruct its former grandeur from the size of its central court, pools and standing walls. That open ruin tells a different story from Bahia’s decorated rooms. Walking the perimeter gives better perspective than stopping only at the center. The Kasbah and Mellah are close enough to make a coherent southern-medina circuit.
What to look for
A huge central court sets the scale of the former palace.
Surviving walls and pools outline the original plan.
Useful to know
Allow an unhurried circuit of the court before continuing to Bahia Palace.
