Tour de la Babotte

The Tour de la Babotte is one of the surviving towers of medieval Montpellier's defenses. Its stone exterior makes the old city wall legible just south of the Écusson.

Why go

Stand back on Boulevard de l'Observatoire to take in the tower's height and curved masonry. This is a brief outdoor history stop rather than a building tour. Pair it with a walk along the southern edge of the old town, where the contrast between the tower and later streets is clearest.

What to look for

  • A surviving medieval rampart tower
