Why go
This northward route suits visitors interested in Mandalay’s royal setting and the religious landmarks beyond it. The palace and its moat establish the scale of the former royal city. Yadanabon Zoological Gardens is an optional pause near the north side of the precinct; leave it out if you prefer more time for architecture. Shwenandaw Monastery then brings the final royal court into a carved teak building, while Kuthodaw spreads its inscribed marble slabs around a central stupa. Finish at Mandalay Hill, where the ascent adds shrines and wider city views. The hill needs energy after several stops, so keep the earlier visits measured and check current access.
