Porta Nuova
Porta Nuova marks the western entrance to the old city beside Palazzo dei Normanni. Its triumphal form is easiest to appreciate from the street.
Why go
The gate was built to commemorate Charles V’s entry into Palermo and frames the start of the long eastward street axis. Look at its sculpted supporting figures before continuing toward the palace or cathedral. This is a short exterior stop with strong historical context.
