Palazzo dei Normanni
Palermo's Royal Palace still serves Sicily's regional parliament. Its Norman royal history and the Palatine Chapel make it a substantial visit, although room access can vary.
Why go
The palace connects the Norman kingdom's seat of power to the government building used today. Its royal rooms add political scale to the mosaics of the Palatine Chapel inside the complex. Seeing both makes the chapel's lavish design intelligible as part of a court, not an isolated church.

Useful to know
Check palace-room and chapel access separately before planning the combined visit; they follow different visitor arrangements.
Allow the chapel its own time rather than treating it as a passage through the palace.
Regional parliamentary work may affect which rooms can be seen.
