Basilica of Sts Peter and Paul
Vyšehrad's twin-towered church is worth entering for its painted interior, while its exterior anchors a walk through the fortress grounds and nearby cemetery.
Why go
The present neo-Gothic building rises over an older sacred site, and its Art Nouveau decoration gives the interior a different character from the pointed stone exterior. It adds a focused architectural stop to the wider Vyšehrad circuit. Its towers give the fortress a recognisable silhouette from the river below.
What to look for
Two neo-Gothic towers mark the church above Vyšehrad.
Art Nouveau paintings enrich the church interior.
Vyšehrad Cemetery lies immediately beside the basilica.
Useful to know
See the exterior as part of a Vyšehrad walk, then enter if sightseeing is available.
Check for services before visiting the interior, as sightseeing pauses during Mass.
