Why go
Maastoren is primarily an exterior architecture stop rather than an observation tower. Completed in 2009, its 44 storeys create a strong vertical marker near the river and the southern approach to the centre. The building’s heating and cooling system uses Maas water with underground energy storage, linking its height to less visible engineering below.
What to look for
- The 161.2-metre profile rising from the southern riverfront
- A façade best read in relation to the surrounding Kop van Zuid towers
- A heating and cooling system using river water and underground energy storage
Useful to know
- View the tower from the riverfront or Erasmusbrug; it is a working office building.
- Do not rely on access to upper floors because general visitor entry is not established.
- Include it in a wider walk through Kop van Zuid rather than making a dedicated interior visit.
