Niš Fortress
Niš Fortress combines Ottoman walls with a large area of parkland beside the Nišava. It is an accessible introduction to the city's changing historical layers.
The surviving gates and defenses belong largely to the Ottoman period, while older remains show the site's longer history. Walking inside gives a better sense of its scale than looking only at the river frontage. It pairs naturally with the central streets on the opposite bank.
