Follow the Candelabra, Tapestries and Maps galleries into Raphael’s four painted rooms, then continue through the papal palace along the signed museum route to Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel.

Maps and Tapestries to Raphael and Michelangelo

Why go

Begin at the Gallery of the Candelabra after museum admission, then continue through the Tapestries and Geographical Maps galleries. The route next shifts from long corridors to the papal rooms: Hall of Constantine, Room of Heliodorus, Room of the Segnatura and Room of the Fire in the Borgo. Finish in the Sistine Chapel, reached through the museum’s directed circulation. This is the best choice for frescoes and large decorative programs; it has little time for side wings. Budget 30–45 minutes for security, ticket checks and reaching the first gallery within its stop, and follow the museum signs through the papal rooms and onward to the chapel.
