Why go
The selection spans too much of Switzerland for one day, so its value is comparison. Winterthur favors museums, Schaffhausen joins Old Town and Rhine scenery, Lucerne combines lake and historic center, and Bern offers rich urban heritage. Interlaken and Geneva require the clearest purpose and longest travel commitment. Choosing by experience and total travel time produces a better day than choosing by name recognition alone. This protects the visit from becoming a rail marathon.
Useful to know
- Choose one city and check return travel before departure.
- Keep a Zurich garden-and-lake alternative for poor mountain visibility or a late start.
