Why go
The square works as a compact lesson in Alicante’s early-20th-century urban character. Its huge trees create the feeling of an outdoor room, while the fountain and surrounding façades reward a closer look before or after the busier Explanada and waterfront.
What to look for
- Mature ficus trees spread a broad canopy across much of the square.
- The Water Carrier fountain forms the central sculptural focus.
- The former post-office building adds a strong modernist façade to the enclosure.
Useful to know
- Allow 20 to 30 minutes for the fountain, trees and surrounding architecture.
- Combine the square with Casa Carbonell, Canalejas Park or the Explanada on the same walk.
- Use its shade as a quieter pause between old-town and waterfront sights.
