MARQ Archaeological Museum
A modern archaeological museum turns Alicante's long history into a clear chronological visit, with interactive displays that suit travellers who prefer context to isolated objects.
MARQ gives a broad indoor introduction to the province’s past. Permanent galleries move from prehistory and Iberian culture through Roman, medieval, modern and contemporary periods. Interactive and audiovisual displays connect local archaeology with wider historical context instead of presenting each period as an isolated sequence of objects.
What to look for
Follow the permanent route from prehistory through Iberian, Roman and medieval Alicante.
Interactive displays explain excavation methods and the context in which objects were found.
Reconstructions connect local finds with the landscapes and communities that produced them.
Useful to know
Allow 90 minutes for the permanent galleries and more if a temporary exhibition is a priority.
Use MARQ as an indoor counterpoint to Santa Bárbara Castle or the old town on a hot or wet day.
Check the current exhibition programme before visiting; temporary shows can change the useful visit length.
