Why go
La Ereta turns the climb on Mount Benacantil into a landscape experience. Its 1.6-kilometre route moves from the old town through planted terraces to overlooks of the port, Postiguet Beach, Cape Santa Pola and Tabarca, making the changing elevation the reason to visit.
What to look for
- Terraces planted with Mediterranean species step up the southwest slope of Mount Benacantil.
- Higher overlooks open across the old town, harbour and Postiguet Beach.
- On clear days the view reaches towards Cape Santa Pola and Tabarca.
Useful to know
- Allow 60 to 90 minutes and expect sustained uphill sections.
- Climb through the park from Santa Cruz when continuing towards the castle, or descend for an easier route.
- Avoid the hottest part of the day because much of the hillside is exposed.
