Independence Arch

See the national symbols on Independence Arch as you cross Chamberlain Bridge between Bridgetown’s waterfront and Independence Square. The crossing connects two useful walking areas in the civic centre.

Independence Arch

Why go

Independence Arch turns a short bridge crossing into a clear civic landmark. Walk through the arch and look at its symbols before continuing toward Independence Square or the Careenage. The Chamberlain Bridge gives a different view of the water from Charles Duncan O’Neal Bridge farther east. The structure is outdoors and quick to see, but people also use the crossing to move through town. Step aside for a closer look and keep pedestrian flow clear.

What to look for

  • National symbols on the arch.
  • The Chamberlain Bridge crossing beneath it.
  • A view toward Independence Square.

Useful to know

  • Pause for photographs where there is room; keep the crossing clear.
