Bern railway station
Bern’s main station is the useful starting point for arriving, transferring and walking into the Old City. It is a transport hub, so plan around your connection rather than a sightseeing visit.
The station brings intercity rail and local transport together close to Bahnhofplatz. From here, the Church of the Holy Spirit and Spitalgasse lead naturally into the older streets. Its value is the easy transition from train to city walk, especially if your time in Bern is limited.
What to look for
Bahnhofplatz opens directly toward the Church of the Holy Spirit.
Spitalgasse begins the walk into Bern’s Old City shopping streets.
Useful to know
Use the station as your arrival point for a walk through Spitalgasse toward the Old City.
Check current platforms and connections with the operator before traveling.
