Artxanda Funicular
The Artxanda Funicular is the short hillside railway linking central Bilbao with the ridge above the city. It turns a steep climb into an easy ascent to the panorama.
Ride the historic line for a dramatic change of perspective: the estuary and dense centre give way to the high ground of Artxanda. The railway journey is its own experience, while the separate lookout merits time after you alight. The ascent itself is brief.
What to look for
The funicular opened in 1915 and climbs from Plaza del Funicular to Artxanda in about three minutes.
