Bilbao City Hall
Joaquín Rucoba's city hall faces the estuary from the Uribarri bank. Its formal façade is easy to see outside; the Neo-Arab reception room calls for a planned visit.
The late nineteenth-century municipal building puts Bilbao's civic ambition on display beside the water. A guided interior visit adds the richly decorated reception room, whose Neo-Arab design differs sharply from the formal exterior. From outside, the bridge across to Abando helps explain how the town hall relates to the city centre.
What to look for
Look across the estuary toward the town hall's Second Empire façade.
A guided visit reveals the ornate Neo-Arab reception room.
Useful to know
Arrange a guided visit well ahead if seeing the reception room matters; otherwise view the façade from the riverside.
