Why go
This name is useful only for understanding older directions around Roma Street. The former complex combined coach and rail facilities, but its shops, terminal floors and entrances are gone. Plan any present journey around the active station and its current signed access.
What to look for
- The former interchange stood beside Roma Street station.
- The transit-centre building was completely demolished during the precinct’s redevelopment.
The full story
Older descriptions of Brisbane transport often point to the Brisbane Transit Centre as a combined coach and rail hub on Roma Street. It opened in the 1980s and once contained terminal floors, shops and links to the railway station. That physical complex has since been demolished as part of the Cross River Rail works. Its name may still appear in an old guide or memory, but it no longer identifies a building that can be entered or toured. The useful orientation today is the Roma Street station precinct, whose active facilities and access points must be checked through current transport information. Keep the historic name separate from the replacement precinct: they are different identities. If you are travelling by train or coach, follow the operator’s present departure details rather than directions to the former centre.
Useful to know
- Do not navigate to old Brisbane Transit Centre entrances.
- Check current Roma Street station and coach departure information for your journey.
