Why go
This is a flexible first look at central Bristol for visitors who want water, civic buildings and a substantial museum in one day. Start at the waterside outside Arnolfini on Narrow Quay, follow the quay to Prince Street Bridge, then cut through Queen Square and the old trading streets. Bristol Bridge is a short architectural pause, while the cathedral and City Museum deserve slower visits. The Old Vic is an optional stop for its building or exhibitions; a performance needs its own booking. End at Cabot Tower only if you still have the energy for Brandon Hill. The tower interior is closed, but the exterior and park are still worth seeing.
