CEC Palace

A grand banking palace crowned by a glass-and-metal dome, marking the southern end of Calea Victoriei opposite Romania's national history museum.

CEC Palace

Why go

The building captures the confidence of Bucharest's late nineteenth-century civic architecture. A broad portico, corner domes and richly modelled stonework create a theatrical façade, while the translucent central dome rises behind it. Regular interior access is limited, so the best experience is an attentive exterior comparison with the former Post Office across the street.

What to look for

  • The central dome combines metal ribs with translucent panels above the banking hall.
  • Four smaller corner domes balance the monumental entrance façade.

Useful to know

  • Treat this mainly as an exterior stop unless an announced event opens the interior.
  • View it from the National History Museum side for the clearest full façade.
