Burns Building
This Edwardian commercial building anchors the east end of Stephen Avenue near Olympic Plaza. Its decorated terra cotta is best appreciated from the pavement.
Pause at the Burns Building to inspect the lion heads, moulded ornament and strong cornice that distinguish it from the surrounding office blocks. The facade shows the ambition of Calgary's early twentieth-century commercial centre in a place you can fold into a walk toward City Hall.
What to look for
Lion heads and other sculpted motifs appear in the terra cotta.
A pronounced cornice caps the six-storey facade.
Regular window bays give the decorated exterior a clear rhythm.
Useful to know
View the building from the public pavement on 8 Avenue SE.
Keep the visit to an exterior stop; public interior access is unverified.
