Carcassonne Cathedral
Visit Saint-Michel in the lower town for a broad single nave, medieval stained glass and a large west rose window. Its shorter visiting windows call for more planning than an outdoor stop.

This is the city’s cathedral today, distinct from the former cathedral inside the Cité. Its single nave and side chapels give a different spatial feel from Saint-Nazaire; the choir glass and west rose window reward a deliberate look. The change of cathedral seat in 1803 connects the two churches.
What to look for
The wide single nave with lateral chapels
Fourteenth-century stained glass in the choir
The large rose window in the west wall
Useful to know
Include Saint-Michel in a lower-town walk rather than assuming it lies inside the Cité.
