Odeon (Bouleuterion)
The small semicircular Odeon beside the State Agora served council meetings as well as performances. Its surviving seating helps distinguish upper Ephesus’s civic life from the city’s much larger theatre.
Stop here before crossing the State Agora to picture how a smaller assembly building worked within the upper city. The curved rows make the Odeon readable at a glance, while its combined political and performance role gives it a different purpose from the Great Theatre farther downhill.
What to look for
Curved seating encloses the Odeon’s compact performance and meeting space.
Its position beside the State Agora places it in the upper civic quarter.
Useful to know
View the hall from the signed visitor route; entry onto its seating is unverified.
Pair it with the nearby State Agora and Prytaneion for a focused civic-quarter visit.
