Mexuar
The Mexuar is a council and justice hall within the Alhambra's Nasrid Palaces. Its layered decoration rewards a pause before moving deeper into the palace rooms.
This hall connects the everyday business of the Nasrid court with the architecture visitors see around it. The council met here, and the sultan dispensed justice. Later alterations, including Christian emblems and chapel use, help explain why the room is less stylistically uniform than a first glance suggests.
What to look for
Surviving columns and the hall's layout recall its public court function.
Christian emblems sit among the room's later decorative changes.
The oratory faces a different direction to serve prayer.
