Why go
The façade provides a direct architectural statement of Finnish statehood, while public tours and plenary access can reveal the institution at work. J. S. Sirén’s design is most distinctive where formal classical elements—the stair, columns and capitals—are simplified into a severe modern composition.
What to look for
- Fourteen columns with Corinthian capitals line the red Kalvola-granite façade.
- Inside, white-marble stairs connect five individually designed floors around the main lobby and Session Hall.
- The public galleries of the Session Hall provide views of parliamentary proceedings when access is available.
Useful to know
- Public access is divided among booked guided tours, plenary sessions, the Visitor’s Centre and the Parliament Library.
- Tours, plenary sessions, the Visitor’s Centre and the Parliament Library follow separate timetables; check the schedule for the access option you intend to use.
