Why go
For visitors who have already seen the main Peace Park memorials, this compact city walk adds the ordinary buildings and streets that carry a different kind of memory. Honkawa Elementary School Peace Museum and Fukuro-machi Elementary School Peace Museum preserve school stories, while the Hypocenter marker fixes the geography of the explosion. The former Bank of Japan branch shows how a civic building survived and was later reused. Give the two school museums enough time for the accounts they present; the street marker is a brief pause between them. The route is entirely in central Hiroshima and can be taken at a measured pace, with breaks between the more demanding historical displays.
