Balconies of Historic Lima
Enclosed wooden balconies are a recurring feature of Lima’s historic streets, not a single attraction. Notice them while walking between the centre’s better-known monuments.
Rather than looking for one address, compare balconies on civic buildings and old houses as you cross the historic centre. Their projecting forms change the rhythm of the street above eye level. Torre Tagle Palace and Casa de Osambela give two named facades where the detail is especially easy to seek out.
What to look for
Enclosed box balconies project from many historic facades.
Torre Tagle Palace has a pair of ornate wooden balconies.
Casa de Osambela has five balconies and a lookout tower.
Useful to know
Look upward while walking between Plaza Mayor and nearby historic streets.
Use named buildings as viewing anchors; there is no single balcony entrance.
