Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourvière
A richly decorated hilltop basilica with narrative mosaics, marble surfaces and a broad esplanade overlooking the whole historic center of Lyon.
Why go
The visit combines close decorative detail with the city's broadest orientation point. Inside, six large mosaics and layers of stone, glass and gilding contrast with the more restrained crypt. Outside, the esplanade makes the two rivers and major districts easier to understand.
