Why go
This walk suits a first visit focused on Macau’s older streets and the buildings that give them character. Start at A-Ma Temple, then follow the southern slope past the Moorish Barracks and St Lawrence’s Church. The route reaches Dom Pedro V Theatre before moving into the compact civic centre around Leal Senado and Senado Square. The Ruins of St Paul’s are an optional uphill finish if your energy and the weather allow. Allow time for the climbs and for crossing busy streets; this is a walking day with several short visits, rather than a sequence of long indoor tours.
