Ruins of St. Paul’s
A carved stone church façade rises above the steps in Macau’s historic centre. The remains behind it give the dramatic front a clearer story, though entry to the managed ruins has separate access.
The surviving façade is one of the clearest places to read Macau’s Jesuit history in stone. Look beyond the view from the square: carved religious figures and motifs fill the front, while the remains behind it mark the scale of the former church and college destroyed by fire in 1835.
What to look for
Carved figures and religious motifs cover the stone façade.
The remains of the college and crypt lie behind the façade.
Mount Fortress rises above the ruins nearby.
Useful to know
View the façade from the public square even if the managed remains are closed.
Allow time to climb the steps and continue to nearby Na Tcha Temple or Mount Fortress.
